The Boys Ploughing Match

The Ploughing Match - Before the Start.

The ploughs are judged for 'Best Kept' in two categories - for wooden and metal. These ploughs are very often handed down for several generations, and are exact replicas of the full size ploughs.

They then move onto the sand to do the ploughing in earnest.

The boys pick a 'flat' (which is four feet square) by number. There are three categories - under 8's, ordinary and champion class. They get forty five minutes to do the ploughing.

There is also a prize for the youngest ploughboy. The ploughing is then judged for best ends, neatest finish, straightness ploughing etc - in the same way as adult ploughing competitions.

...and after many years of practice...
..in expert hands!!
